Christ Special School organised 3- day training programme for special Educators of Bangalore, along with Christ Special School teachers there were around 15 special educators and other professionals working in different special schools across Bangalore, the schools which attended this sessions were Arpana CSI Special school, Samavesah Foundation, Deepika special School, Ashraya Centre for learning, The Learning space remedial centre, Aruna chethana, Aarohita learning centre, Credence special school, Vathsalya HAL school for special Education.
The three day session was led by Dr. A. T. Thressiakutty, who is a renowned expert in special education, particularly in the areas of vocational training and rehabilitation for individuals with intellectual disabilities. She is a senior Special Educator, after her M.Ed and M.Phil, she completed her PhD at Osmania University, Hyderabad. She was a former faculty member at NIMH now called NIEPID.
Dr. Thressiakutty was accompanied by Rev. Fr. Roy Vadakkel, Director of Asha Nilayam Special School and Rev. Fr. Thomas Kandathil, Assistant Director of Asha Nilayam.
The session was completely on empowering teachers to prepare students from the primary section to decide and train according to their vocation. Thresiakutty ma’am had trained teachers to prepare curriculum by keeping in mind their vocational goals and other topics were on student’s self advocacy and remedial strategies for specific Learning disability.
There was an inaugural function conducted before the training and the dignitaries who were present other than resource person were, Dr. Joseph CC (Vice-chancellor of Christ deemed to be University), Dr. M Thomas Kishore (Prof. Of Clinical Psychology) at NIMHANS and for the Valedictory function the dignitaries were Dr. Uma Krishnan (Asst. Professor at Dept. of Psychology, Christ deemed to be University), and Ms.SUSANA PATRICIA GONZALEZ PORTELA (Asst. Professor at Dept of Languages, Christ deemed to be UNiversity). During this function, all participants were awarded with certificates distributed by Dr. A. T. Thressiakutty. All three days, snacks and lunch were provided for all participants.
