About Christ Special School

St.Kuriakose Elias Chavara Founder of the religious Congregation of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) is the guiding light of Christ Special School. Christ Special School is owned and managed by CMI Congregation. From its very inception has a strong social accent in that its founder Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara started various types of programme for uplifting of the poor, marginalized and differently abled persons.

Christ Special School was established by CMI congregation in the year 2012 especially for the underserved and economically backward children with special needs. It was blessed and inaugurated by Most Reverend Bernard Moras, the former Arch Bishop of Bengaluru on 28th July 2012. Christ Special School caters to people in need by providing plethora of services including quality education, nutritious food (Mid-Day Meal), transportation, vocational training, sports and placement based rehabilitation. These services are offered for free for all the under privileged students with special needs. The initiatives of Christ Special School strive towards creating opportunities for them to keep pace with the rest of the society.

Christ special school is not just a non-governmental organization or a school of a different kind, it is the realization of a long-cherished dream; it is a social movement; it is an infinite process.

Christ Special School provides education for children with special needs. The school caters to 60 students between 6 and 18 years in age with special needs; learning disabilities, ADHD, CP, mild autism and mild and moderate intellectual disability.

Every year we set standards and goals for ourselves and strive to achieve them – be it in the area of academics, sports or cultural events.

Christ special School also has the full time supporting staffs to take care of these special children. Apart from providing complete facilities, there are ample provisions for Occupational and Vocational Training so as to help the students in social rehabilitation and overall skills development.

Periodic visits by professional expertise of physiotherapists, speech therapists and special educators and frequent visits of highly competent doctors- physician, pediatrician, neurosurgeons and dentist helps in the holistic development.

Our Mission

Christ Special School aims at the well being of the mentally challenged children our mission includes the following.
  • To provide early identification and intervention services to enhance skills.
  • To empower the family through training programs and to implement home-based training by involving the family.
  • To provide community-based learning to participate in community life and use community services.
  • To rehabilitate the individuals in their communities by training them to earn their livelihood.
  • To promote inclusive education.
  • To create awareness in the community on various aspects of disability and the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • To advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • To research various areas of disabilities and contribute to empowering and rehabilitating persons with disabilities.
Christ Special School aims at initiating a research and documentation centre on various disabilities like physical and health impairment, sensory disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment, speech disorders, mentally challenged, learning disabilities, and autism.

Aims and Objectives

Christ special school takes care of the differently abled children between the ages of six and eighteen in and around Bengaluru city along with offering for their rehabilitation. Our mission also includes creating awareness in the society and among the parents about their obligations towards these people, giving training to promote creative activities such as drawing, painting and handicraft works, and updating their skills and knowledge.

The Centre for the Mentally Challenged Children offered by Christ Special School is a day care centre, which will offer community-oriented services.

The Centre gives the differently abled children every chance to bloom and prosper to their full potential and combines humanitarian and developmental objectives, recognizing children as both valuable and vulnerable in the rapidly changing and challenging world. The school is able to cater to the needs of a limited number of differently abled children with the help of interdisciplinary team of experts.
